February 2018 - Woolmans Wood Phase 2 scheme complete.

Scheme Name: Phase 2 Woolmans Wood

Client: Clancy Docwra (CD) on behalf of Southern Water Services (SWS).

Date: October 2016 – December 2017

This £8m mains renewal scheme involved laying approximately 30km of new HPPE water mains to replace the existing 85-year-old mains around Gillingham, Rochester and Chatham.  Furthermore, as part of this scheme, 6.3km of existing mains were required to be flushed, alongside the new mains that were being installed.

The driver behind this scheme, was to enhance and provide further security to the existing water infrastructure by reducing leaks/bursts within this area.

The designs for this scheme were created to ensure that the new mains were laid as close to the existing mains that were to be abandoned as possible to enable the most cost-effective and efficient way of transferring the existing 4000+ services.

As a result of the works that we already undertake on behalf of CD within the Network Development workstream, we were CDs Contractor of choice to produce all of the Handover and Close Out Packs for each separate element of this project, which ensured that the paperwork remained DWI and OFWAT compliant.

This included, but was not limited to the following:

  • GPS As-Laid drawings – specific to each road (108 roads and 251 As-Laid plans) to an accuracy of 10cm, detailing all new, abandoned and existing mains with all associated fittings.
  • Handover Certification and Additional Data Information, detailing all reportable information.
  • Collation and interrogation of all Pressure Test and Sampling data to ensure that compliance with SWS procedures are met.
  • Commissioning Advice Detail to ensure compliance of all new infrastructure to SWS close out standards.
  • Production of mapping update request and reportable details to ensure SWS fulfilled the requirements dictated by OFWAT in the AMP6 period.

Our Riverrok representative was also responsible for:

  • Assisting in organising and co-ordinating the Handover Walks for each road with all sign off parties, to ensure that all infrastructure was installed to the correct design specification.
  • Identifying and detailing scheme defects/snagging to ensure that all roads within this scheme adhered to SWS design specification and Kent County Council Highways specification.
  • Assisting in undertaking reinstatement surveys to enable CD to complete the close out of their Highways noticing to ensure that Fixed Penalty Notices were not received.
  • Undertaking surveys on the existing SWS network to ascertain the locations and operability of all existing apparatus, as part of a subsequent flushing programme.

During this scheme Riverrok assisted CD and SWS in working very closely with key stakeholders, to ensure public relations were kept up to the highest standard. These included many schools and the Medway Maritime Hospital.

In addition to working closely with many stakeholders, Riverrok were asked to partake in a Christmas charity event at the Medway Maritime Hospital, which we were happy to be a part of. The event saw hundreds of presents wrapped by Riverrok, CD and SWS staff to enable all patients staying in Hospital over Christmas to have a gift on Christmas day.

Riverrok are very proud to have been a part of this project and assist CD in supplying SWS with a concise, in-depth, product which was delivered on time and to budget.
